PHP5 on webservers

I was just wondering how many of you are hosting your sites on PHP5. (NOT PHP4).

Many of my friends report this issue. Despite their developing environment uses PHP5, their hosting still is on PHP4. So they had to degrade themselves and their programming limits.

I developed a code library in my office using PHP5. As we have servers with PHP5, all my sites are running successfully. When I gave my codebase to my friends, they reported that private-public, abstract, interface are not supported on their hosts, because they are PHP4s.

Isn’t it restricting the capability and creativity of our php programmers? Though corporate companies use PHP5 for internals, why don’t shared webhosts switch to v5? Why do they want to still live in old huts?

Many use licenced Windows XP, instead of free Windows 98, pirated on their desktop machines. But, why dont they upgrade their linux servers? Why are servers left carelessly, without any upgrades? Linux and php are free right?

Do you know any webhosts (”branched” or “rooted” in india, especially in metro cities) who use php v5? I don’t think there will be one.

Can someone think of this and consider this?
